「"Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day."」

Dear students of the University of Aizu,

The school cafeteria will resume serving breakfast from Q2. They suspended the service due to the school closure. It will be like killing two birds with one stone if you wake up early, come to school and eat a well-balanced breakfast. On top of this, the breakfast pass for one month is only 1500 yen (limited in July and August). Unfortunately, this wonderful service is only for undergraduate students. If you are undergrad students, you shouldn’t miss this opportunity!

★ From the Nurse ★
On September 27, 2017, Prime Minister Modi of India proposed to establish the International Yoga Day at the United Nations General Assembly. He said, "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day." 177 countries approved, and it was adopted. Since then, we have had the International Yoga Day when the sun rises highest, namely on the day of the summer solstice, which was June 21 this year. Yoga is believed to cure physical and mental ailments by making you aware of your body, breathing, perception, intelligence, and the past.
“Literature Review of the Effect of Yoga on Mental and Physical Health” (Noboru MIYAKO, Osaka University of Economics Bulletin vol. 59 (3), September 2008) summarizes the effects of Yoga as follows; 1. relaxation of the body, 2. activation of nerves, internal secretion, and immunity, and 3. relief of anxiety and increased concentration.
Unfortunately, large scale Yoga events were cancelled all over the world due to the novel coronavirus pandemic this year.

★ From the Counselor ★
The summer solstice was June 21st. It is the day with the longest period of daylight. Depending on the place, the daytime is longer by as many as five hours than on the day of winter solstice! This year was special because the partial solar eclipse took place too first time in 372 years. It could be observed in Aizu, but the weather was not good. So I saw it in the news on TV.
After the summer solstice, day time gets shorter gradually, but I was surprised that there is a five-hour difference. Because the change occurs gradually, we realize the day has become shorter a while later. It is hard to notice gradual change. We change gradually too every day. So please try to pay attention to your body and mind. When you realize you are tired, you shouldn’t accumulate the fatigue. I recommend you practice a relaxation technique that is good for you.
